Political Theory is an important academic journal in the fields of political philosophy and practical theology. The content involved is extensive and in-depth, covering the theoretical basis of political theology, different theological trends and viewpoints, the role of religion in the development of social and political history, the relationship between politics and theology, as well as the exploration of political theology in topics such as political philosophy, cultural criticism, and jurisprudence.

The concept of political theology first emerged in the debate on faith issues in the German theological community in the first half of the 19th century. Since the 1960s, it has been commonly used in historical discussions to discuss the role of religion in the development of social and political history. As a specialized theological movement, it is related to the theological ideas of German Catholic theologian Johann Baptist Metz and Protestant theologian J ü rgen Moltmann, and later influenced the Christian communities in Asia, Africa, and Latin America, giving rise to ideas such as "liberation theology" and "struggle theology". In the 1980s, there was a new shift in discourse on "political theology", focusing on topics such as political philosophy, cultural criticism, and jurisprudence.
